he memorial for those who died during the holocaust...
the remians of a church...
So this summer i went to Europe, though i spent most of my time at switz,i went to Germany for a couple of days. The Architecture of the place is truly amazing..paintings on the walls of buildings..each picture depicting a different story. The flying horses with the presence of which one could identify a theater or a opera house. The semi damaged cathedrals with blackened walls which was kind of a constant reminder of the whole bombing that took place here.Another interesting thing i witnessed there were te kinda of structures...modern ,high rise buildings on one side of the street while the other side had ancient houses.
Honestly even though Germany was truly a beautiful place,i was a little freaked.Especialy since my sis and I had the Holocaust in mind.We saw the MEmorial of those who died in the holocaust..there were a thousand concrete structures!and yet they perhaps constituted 1/4th of the number of people who died.
The only positive thing that i got to see which diverted my mind from being depressed was the Berlin Wall.An amazing sight..the remenants which tell you that how we(the people) can change everything. The Unification of East and West Germany is an example of such.!iT happened just 20yrs ago,we spoke to some german people and they told us about how they actively participated inthe breaking of the wall and how they still had pieces of it as a reminder.Checkpoint Charlie...the very place where the mass revolted, broke down the wall which actually mocks the sillyness of two former superpowers(one of which still claims to be a superpower). The only thing that really annoyed me were the Gimmicks..people actually clicked pictures with two people posed as the generals of the respective parties ,atleast I felt as though they were making fun of the whole incident that happened.Think about the people who couldnt meet their relatives who just lived across the street coz it was divided, the struggle people had to go through, the extent to which they were provoked ..
,And the costumes do nothing but bring up the painful memories of seperation....
